Hopefully, you're not feeling too depressed about the myriad of "sustainable" challenges facing society today. If you are feeling a little glum, we offer you an opportunity to convert that negative energy - "The world is doomed" - to a more
positive outlook - "I can be an active participant in moving towards a more sustainable world". How does one go about this, you might ask? Well, look no further.
The new Sustainability Studies minor offers you salvation from despair in the form of active knowledge to be applied to real-world problems of sustainability. YES, you read that correctly, we offer an applied-learning experience! Please check out our nifty brochure (pdf attached) and our super fancy website (http://www.sustainability.umn.edu/minor/index.html) for more info about the minor. THE TIME IS NOW!!!
We are excited to see so many of you interested in sustainability and challenge you to continue this pursuit into the future. As you are well aware, moving towards sustainability is a gradual process requiring an interdisciplinary approach. We believe that each of you have an important role to play. The Sustainability Studies minor will prepare you with the necessary tools to tackle real-world sustainability problems, both in your own life and beyond. The capstone experience for the minor will have you working in interdisciplinary teams on a collaborative service-learning project dealing with a campus sustainability problem (e.g. local and environmentally-friendly food sourcing, building design, energy, green landscaping, etc.). By the completion of the minor, YOU will have been instrumental in moving our campus forward towards sustainability.
Act now to enroll! Advisors are eagerly awaiting to help you map out your own personalized Sustainability Studies minor! Attached you will also find the minor enrollment form which is needed to enroll.
Please feel free to email us if you have any questions or to set up an advising meeting.
