*Think Outside the Bottle - Spring '08 Internship Opportunities*
*Position:* Campaign Organizing Intern
*Location:* St. Paul/Minneapolis, MN

In Minnesota, we are working on our Think Outside the Bottle campaign. We are working to protect public water systems by building grassroots support in the area and challenging corporate control of water. Already this fall, we have seen significant action on the part of Minneapolis - Mayor Rybak endorsed the Think Outside the Bottle campaign and notably increased funding for the municipal water system!

*Internship Description:* Internship roles are flexible based on the strengths of the individual and campaign priorities throughout the semester Basic roles of Campaign Organizing Interns are:  Campus Recruitment o Recruitment is vital to the success of our campaign. Responsibilities would include contacting students interested in joining the campaign, tabling, talking with student and community groups in the area, and training new volunteers.

* Media Outreach*  We rely heavily on media coverage to educate the public about our issue. Interns may be responsible for helping contact media sources, including campus paper and radio, city TV, city radio and city print outlets to invite them to major events.

*Campus Visibility* We'll have to let people know about what we're up to on campus! We'll be having several fun events for people to participate in and interns will be responsible for flyering and postering the campus as well as taking photos at the events.

*Events* Part of our campaign is to educate the public and pressure public officials through the use of creative events. We will be holding Tap Water Challenges, kick off meetings, movie screenings, and other events throughout the semester. Interns will help reserve spaces, secure event supplies and run the event.

*Community Outreach* To form the broadest possible base of support for our campaign, we will also be reaching out to local community groups. Interns will attend some community meetings and encourage groups to endorse the campaign.

*Building Grassroots support * This semester we will be asking literally thousands of people to sign the Think Outside the Bottle pledge. Last fall over 2,000 people signed the pledge and we will need interns to continue the pledge drive in the spring. People who sign the pledge are our volunteer base so this is a critical part of the campaign.

*Internet Organizing*  We are hoping to keep a blog of our actions this spring and interns would be responsible for updating the blog, putting events on community calendars, and sending out weekly emails to volunteers.

*Hours:* We are looking for interns to start as soon as possible and to work between 5-10 hours a week. Times during the day are flexible and work can usually be done at home and between classes.

*Qualifications:* Applicants may be from any major, but should demonstrate commitment to corporate accountability and/or progressive social change. Interns should also demonstrate highly effective written and verbal communication skills. Some experience in a high-energy, campaign and non-profit work is advantageous but not necessary. Excellent computer skills are also helpful. We see students with good organizational skills and the ability to juggle several tasks while making and meeting deadlines.

*Benefits:* The internships are unpaid, but interns are given the opportunity to work as part of a national campaign, gain leadership experiences through managing volunteers, and have input and influence on campaign tactics. After checking with major departments, interns may be able to gain course credit for their work.
